Just when you think you have the acronyms figured out you will encounter more.
CPSE- committee for preschool special education
This is the bible that determines what services your child will receive for that school year.
The first CPSE meeting can be intimidating. Hopefully you will have someone at the table who knows your child besides you. It helps to bring pictures of your child so the committee can see that your child is real. Because the school district is now the one paying for the services they will want to know if your child really needs the services. I have also learned that it helps to know what the therapists are planning on asking for on behalf of your child ahead of time. You as the parent may not be taken as seriously as the therapists opinions. If you feel strongly about something then discuss it with your therapist ahead of time so they can bring it up at the meeting.
It is important to be calm and polite. If you don't agree, you do not have to sign the IEP right away. You can always ask for the meeting to be rescheduled so that you can think about it or whatever you need to do.
I don't want to make it sound all bad. Sometimes the meetings go very well and everyone leaves happy. It's just important to be prepared.
